In July, I was living my version of a chill Jersey Shore summer: starting mornings with yoga, spending afternoons at the beach, and working evenings serving dinner at a local restaurant. At the same time, I was actively applying to every job that caught my interest. Unfortunately, my goal of becoming a medical device sales representative had to be put on pause after receiving rejection after rejection from larger companies. I’ll never forget breaking down on the phone with one of my best friends, overwhelmed by the lack of responses and the amount of rejection I was facing in the job market.

What I didn’t realize then was that I just needed to give it a little more time. Toward the end of July, I landed my first interview for a position as an event coordinator at one of the casinos in Atlantic City. Honestly, I didn’t think I stood a chance—I had never formally held an event coordinator role before. Most of my experience came from my time in my sorority, where I served as public relations coordinator and was an active member of the recruitment team. To my surprise, the interview went really well, and less than a week later I was offered the job.

As August began, I was filling out HR paperwork, securing my casino license, and—of course—shopping for office outfits. Right now, I’m still in the early stages of learning how the team operates and getting settled into the role, but I’m genuinely excited. This opportunity feels like the start of a new journey, one where I can grow, challenge myself, and build a meaningful career.
