Let’s Go Out to the Ball Game

I’ll be honest—I know the bare minimum when it comes to sports. Like, I can name the most famous players and maybe recognize a few of their teams (and by “teams” I really just mean Philadelphia teams). That’s about it. But one day in Ocean City, fate intervened—I spotted the most perfect Phillies sweater. Patchwork sleeves, red and white stripes… it was giving “sporty chic” in all the right ways. Of course, I saw the price tag, put it back, and walked away like a responsible adult. Then a week later, I marched right back because I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Fast forward: I never actually made it to a Phillies game this summer. I was busy, friends were busy, and coordinating schedules felt impossible. Finally, after one of my dinner-table complaints, my mom just said, “Why don’t you look up tickets for us?” Which is exactly what I did.

We went to Philly early to shop—obviously. I love seeing things in person to spark inspiration (and maybe swipe my card impulsively). I did cave at
Brandy Melville (yes, I’m basic, and yes, I regret nothing), but I managed to restrain myself at Aritzia, Free People, and Anthropologie. Then we grabbed pizza before heading to Citizens Bank Park.
Before the game started, I dragged my mom to Xfinity Live for a drink and a ride on the mechanical bull—I can never pass up a fun time. It was raining, so there was talk of cancellations, but the weather cleared and the Phillies actually played.
Now, like I said, I know nothing about sports—but even I could tell this was a big deal. The Phillies hit eight home runs, crushed the Marlins 11–1, and apparently broke a record for the most home runs in one game. They’re also advancing to the division series, which sounds important… whatever that means. Go Phils!
Of course, the real star of the night was the food. I had a copious amount of crab fries with cheese, some chicken tenders, and the iconic ice cream helmet cup (which I immediately spilled on myself, obviously). Ballpark food is just undefeated.

At the end of the day, I loved spending time with my mom, soaking up the energy, and being part of the Philly fandom—even if I can barely explain what an RBI is. Sports knowledge: minimal. Phillies energy: maximum.
